Long before conventional air conditioning became available, evaporative cooling was used. It is still being used today in homes and businesses as an effective alternative to air conditioning. Misting is really a technological advance of evaporative cooling. Misting was developed for a different purpose; that is, to create cooling in an outdoor environment rather than indoors.

Misting works by forcing water through a brass and stainless steel mist nozzle producing a micro-fine mist. The water droplets that create the mist are so small, about one-half the diameter of a strand of hair, that they instantly flash evaporate. This flash evaporation can reduce the surrounding air as much as 30° F (16° C) in just seconds. This dome of cool refreshing air insulates you from the detrimental effects of the hot sun making any outdoor activity more enjoyable.

We can describe it something like this, "Evaporative cooling uses the science of thermal dynamics; that is, the fact the water requires energy to evaporate (about 600 calories of heat per gram of water, to be exact). When the mist evaporates, this exchange of energy results in the lowering of the ambient temperature." Most of our customers aren't really interested in the science, they care about results.

The optimum conditions for evaporative cooling is when the humidity is below 80%. We have designed a product that can perform well in very humid conditions. This product takes advantage of conductive cooling which is the cooling of the exposed surface of the skin. Our mist system can be filled with ice and water to produce a chilly ice cold mist. When its really sticky outside that icy mist feels great!
